(Berea) - Here's proof we're staying at home. Toll collections on the Ohio Turnpike are down sharply.
The Turnpike says toll collections in March dropped around 10% from last year, and preliminary numbers for April indicate toll collections could be down from last year as much as 35%.
The Turnpike's director of government affairs, Adam Greenslade, told cleveland.com the turnpike has projected an operating loss of about $65 million this year.
Toll collections are the Turnpike's main source of revenue, and some of that toll money also goes for road projects elsewhere in northern Ohio.
Because of the drop in revenue, the turnpike has imposed a hiring freeze, and may cut some work shifts.
