Lorain - The Lorain County Sheriff's Office has been awarded two grants that will be in effect from October 1st, 2019 to September 30th, 2020.
The federal government, along with the state of Ohio's Traffic Safety Office giving the department over $80,000 in funds.
The first grant is for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. Over $34,000 have been donated to focus on aggressive driving, speed and distracted drivers.
The second grant is for the Impaired Driving Enforcement Program. Over $46,000 have been donated to focus on getting impaired drivers off the road.
The high-visibility patrols will take place throughout various times of the year, including holidays and special events.
Lorain County Sheriff Phil Stammitti released a statement on the grants, saying "The main goal of these High Visibility enforcement blitzes are to reduce the number of alcohol and speed relatedd accidents along with seat belt usage in Lorain County, these types of accidents always have devastating effects on the motoring public".
