VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System Announces New Director / CEO

Cleveland - The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Jill Dietrich, JD, MBA, FACHE, as the new director / CEO for VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, effective September 29th. Dietrich will oversee the delivery of health care to nearly 112,600 Veterans and an operating budget of over $1.1 billion in Northeast Ohio.

“We are excited to bring Jill Dietrich on board as the new director of VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System,” said Shella Stovall, Acting Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 10 Director. “Her sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the facility, the employees and volunteers, and most importantly, for the Veterans we are honored to serve.”

Dietrich currently serves as Director of the Dayton VA Medical Center Director, where she mitigated a $13.4 million deficit in FY18 and led an organizational chart redesign to ensure future stability. She also established a Veteran Food Pantry at the Dayton VA which has provided food to 6,000 Veterans and their family members in need, since it opened in November, and was named one of Dayton Business Journal’s “40 under 40” leaders this year.

Dietrich began her VA career in the highly prestigious Presidential Management Fellows Program in 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where she became Lebanon’s Program Manager for Acute Care & Specialty Services.  She then served in a series of increased leadership positions, including Assistant Medical Center Director at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Associate Medical Center Director at VA Long Beach Healthcare System, and acting Deputy Medical Center Director in Washington, DC.

Dietrich earned her B.A. in Political Science and Psychology, with minors in Philosophy and Criminal Justice, from Indiana University. She also has a law degree and MBA, with a concentration in Health Law, from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Dietrich is a graduate of the Presidential Management Fellows Program, the VISN 10 Leadership Development Institute, the VHA Health Care Development Program, and the Harvard University Senior Executive Fellows Program with the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Andrew Pacyna, FACHE, Deputy Healthcare System Director for VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, will serve as Dayton’s acting Medical Center Director until a permanent selection can be made. Andrew has previously served in multiple leadership roles across VA, including as acting Director at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System in 2017.

VA Northeast Ohio has had an acting director since the previous director, Susan Fuehrer, retired in June. The current acting director, Candace Ifabiyi, MHA, MSBA, PMP, will return to her role as Associate Director of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois.
